If I buy a big bulk of meat (which I do on a fairly regular basis), I cook it and seasoning it up, sort it into approximately 1 pound bags and freeze it. Then, when I make Tacos, Spaghetti, Chili, Sloppy Joes, or other things that call for ground hamburger meat, I have some ready to use without having to go through the cooking process!
Here’s what I do, it is actually very simple. I am writing this recipe with the assumption that you are buying a 3 lb package, but you can add or subtract as needed:
- 3 medium onions
- 3 lb 90% lean ground beef or 93% lean ground turkey
- 3 garlic cloves, pressed
- Chop onions.
- Place onions, beef and minced garlic into (12-in.) Skillet. Cook over medium-high heat 15-18
- minutes or until beef is no longer pink.
- Divide beef mixture into three portions.

I love this idea!!! I love tacos etc and this is such a great way to spend less time cooking with the mess and just add to it. I am going to have to try this!!!! Thanks for the great idea!!!!
I never even thought of doing this Kelli. What a great idea!! I hate having to brown ground beef. It’s usually one more pan to clean too. I love the thought of getting that chore done all at one time. I’m definitely doing this. Thanks for the tip!! I wonder how long you can freeze it for.

Since I used quite a few pounds per week, I have never had it in my freezer longer than a month, so this I can’t answer. LOL!
